If like me you have a child with an allergy be aware that allergies should be treated very seriously, peanut allergy as an example can kill even an adult in seconds. Even asthma attacks can kill if you are alone or have no inhaler to hand.

Allergies occur when your immune system reacts violently to substances such as nuts, that normally cause no reaction in most people. Allergies to such substances can result in sneezing, minor rashes on your skin or more violent allergies may result in death so any allergy should be treated seriously. Are you worried about your allergy? I have an allergy to bees and wasp and they terrify me as the effects of being stung by one if you have an allergy, increase with age.

All is not lost however as most allergies can be managed. Note though that many allergies such as peanut allergy have no known cure at the minute, but with care and help from those around them, most allergies can be controlled.

There is still a large amount of research into how allergies occur as for example in twins, one may have an allergy to nuts and the other maybe fine, so although some allergies seem to be conclusive, it is by no means certain that if your parents are allergic to something that you will be allergic to it as well.

If you suspect you are allergic to something, consult your doctor who can carry out allergy tests.
